Monday Mention: My Top 5 Favorite Uplifting and Educational Instagram Accounts

Imagine you could spend precious minutes browsing social media and not feel guilty. You may even walk away feeling lighter on your feet.

So, what’s the trick?

Seek out community that inspires you.

Ask yourself: what content truly restores you? This looks different for everyone, but here are a few of my top favorites:

@brownicity

On her website and Instagram account, Dr. Lucretia Berry teaches us how to have meaningful conversations about racism and ethnicity.

In her own words: “Brownicity: the word and the work provides space to live in the tension of restoring one human family that has been fractured by the lies and injustice of race/ism. We are dedicated to advocacy, education, and support for racial healing and antiracism.”

Her posts are kind and compassionate, but also educational about a very hushed and/or charged subject, and I have so much respect for the work that she does.

@annifred_murphy_imasuen

I’m not generally a daily devotional person on Instagram, because I prefer the depth of interaction and compassion I find in the blogging community when it comes to my faith, but I do enjoy following @annifred_murphy_imasuen. They share quotes, scriptures, thoughts, pictures, and more to keep you smiling and remembering to Look Up throughout the week.

@marriagelaboratory

In the interest of keeping it real with you:

Who doesn’t want to talk about sex on a safe, clean platform?

Celeste’s Instagram stories are filled with useful tips and tricks for deepening your intimacy with your spouse. In addition, if you tend to be extremely private when it comes to sex, this is a great way to breach the topic within your own heart, and just start thinking about how to more openly communicate your needs.

@seasonsofrenewal

I saved my two favorites for last, and I have to admit, most of the accounts I follow were recommended from one or both of these.

Seasons of Renewal is a community for women empowering other women, where they offer FREE CLASSES on Instagram Stories with no catch. Some of my favorite classes:

  • National Suicide Prevention Week: Don’t Freak Out, by Heidi Swapp of @lightthefight
  • No Mom Guilt, by Rachel Nielson of @3in30podcast
  • Witching Hour (4pm-7pm) tips and tricks for parenting during the pre-bedtime choas, Crowd-Sourced!!! That means you!
  • Laundry Tips, Crowd-Sourced
  • Meal Planning by Jamielyn Nye of @iheartnaptime

And so much more. Jamie and Shannon archive these classes in the story highlights and continue to expand my list of favorite resources as well as provide helpful and empowering insights for motherhood, and womanhood in general.

@3in30podcast

Rachel Nielson is the host of the @3in30podcast, where she brings on guest speakers and outlines 3 doable takeaways in 30 minutes on a variety of topics.

I love her podcast, but one of the reasons I love her Instagram is the plethora of helpful resources, book reviews, and advice she shares from her own life as well as from the men and women she is privileged to know.

In fact, she did an Instagram Live Q&A with Dr. Berry of @brownicity just last weekend, and that is how I found such a phenomenal lady to add to my list.

Thanks for letting me share!

Thank you for reading and allowing me to share with you some of the people who have blessed my life.

Here’s to finding those people and things that will lift you up!

  1. This is wonderful information Jenny! I don’t believe it is possible to have too much encouragement. I say this as we know it takes 10 positives to cancel out one negative in our experience. I’m with you in preference regarding blogging versus Instagram. (I may give Instagram another try, but I wasn’t on very long when my account was hacked). Anyway, thanks so much for sharing, I always look forward to your posts! πŸ˜€

    1. I love that thought about positive/negative thinking, thank you. That’s too bad your IG account got hacked 😬. But, yes, I feel like I get to know people on a more authentic level through blogging. And I’m so happy one of them is you 😊 πŸ’•. Thanks for stopping by!
