What is outrage culture, and what does it have to do with your identity? We’re going to tell you!
Outrage culture is a social trend where rage is utilized as a form of social capital. In other words, in order to be perceived as being on the “right” side of things, there’s this social pressure to become incensed over whatever evil is perceived to be the worst thing going on at the moment.
Outrage culture is reactionary on principle. It’s disingenuous. It prevents you from being able to focus on the inner work you can do to heal and discover your personal meaning.
With that said, here’s our list of four things you can do to avoid falling into the trap of outrage culture in your own life:
- Recognize when you are being emotionally hijacked.
- Respond with what you are for.
- Ask yourself who does my anger or fear benefit and who does it hurt?
- Let your actions do the talking.
