#17: Monthly Affirmation || I Am Confident

You guys! We are back! We are so glad you are here, too 🙂 How have you been? First, some announcements for Season 2 of the Podcast:

  1. We’re going to have a monthly affirmation instead of a monthly theme. I will announce those in a short 5-minute segment at the beginning of each month!
  2. We cut out our segments to save on time, except for our favorite: #confessionsession
  3. We changed our episode action item to a journal prompt! It just fits better with the thought work we are taking on together.
  4. For my readers, I’m going to try and offer more detail this time around in the Podcast Show Notes. I know not all of you get a chance to listen, so I thought I’d share what I can in written form. It won’t always be a direct transcript, but we hope you enjoy! With this change, the podcast post will double as my weekly article as well. I just need more time for my kiddos right now, and I haven’t been able to blog as much as I would like to, but I may add in other thoughts and articles for fun as they come up. ❤

Show Notes:

Generally speaking, an affirmation is an “I am” statement or a phrase that affirms someone or something – specifically, we want to help you affirm your belief in yourself and your unique identity.

This month, we chose the affirmation “I am confident.” I am confident. My consistent actions make a difference. I steer my own ship. My self-talk reflects my faith in myself. I am a good _______ (wife, mom, husband, dad, friend, author, student, person).

Whenever someone asks about the podcast, I tell them “we are all about knowing and loving who you are”. Guess what?? That is what confidence is. Confidence and identity are almost synonymous – identity is the noun and confidence is the verb of knowing and loving who you are. And, because that is what we’re all about, I couldn’t think of anything better to start with.

So, why does knowing and loving who you are matter? What can confidence in your identity do for you?

I’ve mentioned this before, and I’ll probably mention it again – the secret to not caring what other people think about you is to know and love who you are. You will feel more peace and less anxiety when you know who you are. You will be able to feel confident about the actions you take and the words you say – not because they are perfect or you are perfect (you are human), but because you love who you are for exactly who you are (human and all).

When you know and love who you are, you have the capacity to show up as your best and truest self for the people you love, because you know and feel confident in who that is.

And, maybe, the benefits are obvious – Because confidence does not come naturally to me, I have spent a good deal of time understanding the benefits, and yet unable to bridge the gap between wanting to know and love who I am, and believing that I am inherently enough.

Amanda Louder, host of one of my favorite podcasts (a Christian sex podcast no less) said in an episode of hers once, “Inside every single human on the planet is a voice that says, ‘we are not enough’. For some, that voice is louder than others. Those who are more confident in life still have that voice, they’ve just learned not to believe it.”

Isn’t that beautiful? We all encounter that voice. But you have the power to choose whether or not to believe it.

And what better way to reshape your beliefs than to start with the story that you tell yourself – affirmations being a not-insignificant part of that: “I am confident.” “I am enough.

Now, you might argue, I can say it, but if I don’t believe it, will it really make a difference?

Well, we don’t advocate shoving unwanted feelings under the rug. But do give yourself grace, choose to be proactive rather than reactive by finding an affirmation that means something to you, and, while we all have weaknesses, hopefully, we can show you how much strength you really do have, too.

You are amazing, and we can’t wait to jump in! Until then, spread love!
