Each day, laptop and children permitting, Iβll share a prompt thatβs been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.
You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!
Is there a “pearl of wisdom” that has changed my life?
There are so many good ones it’s hard to choose!
Just yesterday I heard this quote on Cathy Heller’s show Don’t Keep Your Day Job (Episode 11/9/20):
“If you don’t know who you are, get rid of who you aren’t. By process of elimination, you’ll have more of who you are sitting in front of you.” – Matthew Mcconaughey
And this one on Rachel Nielson’s 3 in 30 Podcast for Moms (Episode #156):
“Sometimes in motherhood the hard moments outnumber the perfect moments, but the perfect moments will always outweigh the hard moments.” – Saren Loosli
But, as my readers might be able to guess by how often I mention it, I’m going to have to say it was the first time I heard about these two studies from Dr. Josh & Christi’s Famous at Home (Episode #102):
- First, Robert Epstein found in a meta-analysis that the top 3 parenting strategies to get the outcomes we are looking for in our kids, in order, are:
- Love and Affection
- How a Parent Manages His/Her Own Stress
- How You Treat Your Spouse
- Second, Vern Bengtson from the University of Southern California, in a 55-year longitudinal study, found relational warmth is the single biggest predictor of faith transmission across generations.
Honestly, it’s just changed my life to understand that it’s all about the relationship, and that modeling is about who you are, not your strategy. It changes the way I invest in the people and the values that I love.
What are some of your favorites?

Love the comment by Matthew Mcconaughey ππ indeed get rid of who we are not, although sometimes thatβs easier said than done

Very true. I feel like discovering who I am is always happening, always in progress.

“Your circle should want you to win. You’re circle should clap the loudest when you have good news. If they don’t, get a new circle.”
I don’t know how much it has changed my life, but I like it. It goes along with a post I wrote called “Whoβs Disappointing Whom?” about creating expectations of others.

That is so empowering! We want to be around and be the kind of people that cheers each other on. I will have to look that article up!

Managing our stress is essential. As it has the ability to influence how we react to every relationship we have. π―
Another one I love is “investing in the people I love and around me”.
Thanks for sharing, sis. β€

My pearl: All decisions are really about choosing the type of man/woman I want to be not what to do.

Ooh! Such a great one – becoming, not doing.
