Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.
You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!
Once, when I was driving…
Time to own up, friends. Road rage is a two-way street.
The other day, I was headed to a nearby Kneaders Bakery for breakfast with the kiddos. It was around 7AM, and we’d just dropped Joe off for a Saturday robotics competition. There was almost no traffic on the road.
I turned right at the light and was left with seconds to cross four lanes for a left turn. I checked my mirrors, but, because the streets were practically deserted, I only half-heartedly checked my blind spot.
Then, I went for it.
Three lanes over I heard the honk. It was anxious, long and drawn out.
I swerved to miss, and we both avoided what I’m sure was a close call. I turned farther down the road and pulled over to catch my breath.
I’m so sorry!, I thought. Thank you God for protecting my little family.
And, yet, this isn’t the first time I’ve made a mistake. I don’t text and drive. I don’t drink. I try to stay alert. But, occasionally, I still mess up.
It’s like life, because sometimes other cars do stupid things, too! It really gets under my skin. I’ve never flipped anyone off, but, if I’m honest, I’ve pictured it. Or I glare.
And I assume the worst! Obviously they were on their phone, or chose to blatantly disregard the rules of the road.
It’s in those moments when I remember my own driving faux-pas, and tell myself that, like road-rage, giving grace is a two-way street.
Which one matters most to me?
I don’t always react perfectly, or drive perfectly, but, in both respects, I’m getting better.
Progress over perfection, right?
Let’s hear your road stories.
❤ Jenny
This happened to us! The scariest thing in the world to have an accident with kids in the car.

That’s terrifying! I literally lose it any time one of my kiddos bleeds. You are right about the sentimental memories, too.

It was horrible but I’m glad no one got seriously injured. I’m overly cautious about driving now.
