100 Days of Journal Prompts: Day 28

Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.

You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!

What does being a creator mean to me? Do I feel creative? Why or why not?

You create the life you want to live. Do you believe that?

Lately, I’ve been reading The Slight Edge. The author regularly points out that what we choose not to do has as much of an impact on the course of our lives as what we choose to do.

In other words, there is such a thing as passive creation.

It feels like ages ago now, when I was dating my husband my brother counseled me: “Not making a decision is making a decision, too. Time is an investment.” And so I began to pay closer attention to where my time was invested. Did that time reflect the course of the life I wanted to create or not?

And, it’s easier to see with the big things, but what about the little, day-to-day things that we do – or don’t do?

We are always creating, whether we feel creative or not. Tapping into that is what being a creator means to me – intentionally using the gifts of time and agency to create a joyful soul and a home full of the things that matter most to me.

Because it’s true, we can’t control every inevitability. But we can create.

What are you creating?

  1. I am a creator of stories, a creator of characters, worlds, and viewpoints that are unique. My writing is meant not only to entertain, but in some cases to cause readers to think differently. So, indirectly, I am creating enjoyment, conversations, some relationships, and maybe even creating change in people. I’m proud of my creations and hope to continue for a long time.
