Camping or Hotel?
Here’s a simple one I need you to settle for me – camping, or hotel?
I used to love camping. Joe and I would hike around the mountains and talk about all the backpacking trips we wanted to go on together.
I also went on some fantastic annual family campouts growing up. We played card games, found hidden waterfalls, painted watercolor masterpieces, and sang around the campfire – with dutch oven peach cobbler, of course.
Now that I’m an adult… I’m surprised by the inordinate amount of work camping entails. Bring food. Find ways to keep it cold. Wash dishes without a sink. Try to convince the kids to go to bed at a reasonable hour. And don’t even get me started on bathrooms π€£.
I still love nature. But maybe from a hotel window.
Which do you prefer?

Going on canoe trips (float trips), I don’t mind camping but for a vacation, it’s just a lot of work. When camping, you have to haul, set up, and tear down your shelter, bed, and everything else. With a hotel, you arrive, use it, and then just leave it all behind. Plus, I like using the amenities like pool and hot tub. π

Ooh a canoe trip sounds fun! I agree about camping. I totally took that for granted as a kid, when I wasn’t the one doing all of the work. And I’m with you on the amenities, too π

I sure do love camping, especially when it is combined with hiking! But I must say my favourite trips of all time have been week long hiking trips where I treated myself to a lovely hotel stay at the end. Best of both worlds!

Yes! We’ve started trying out air bnb more, too. It’s a lot cheaper, and sometimes cleaner.
